My son is 10 and absolutely loved this book! He was able to relate to so many parts of the story and could not put it down. The determination of this young man to overcome the ugly of the world is brilliantly written to help all kids to never give up. The story line and lessons learned makes for a great book for kids of all ages. Parts of the book also spark good conversation starters with your kid such as bullying. I would definitely recommend this book!
Amazing!
An engaging tale with a likable main character who is trying to find his place in a cruel world. The setting is set up to be unforgiving, and cruel, but the characters and places within the story are fantastical and really make the world seem magical as from a child's eyes. Some things to look forward too An abandoned mansion on the edge of town with hidden rooms and trap doors, A once in a lifetime genius kid who doesn't know that his artistic skills and problem solving genius are not shared by the townspeople who cast him aside, an evil plot to steal the mansion by the one person charged with his care, and a cat who thinks he is a French gentlemen that talks even though no one can hear him. I am 34 years old, and was recommended this book by a friend as a Christmas gift to my nephew who loves to read. I thought I would check it out first, and I loved it, so I bought a copy for my nephew and recommended to my mother who teaches 11 year olds. Will be on the lookout for more stories from this author.
A creatively-written story that kept both my and my 8-year-old niece's rapt attention. A great Christmas stocking stuffer for any kids with a big imagination.

Loved this story about a lonely boy genius. It's well written with great characters and a nicely crafted plot. In my opinion it compares well with famous stories like Roald Dhal's 'Matilda' and Louis Sachar's 'Holes'.
I loved reading this book. One scene in particular haunted me with just the right amount of unforgettable scary, but not-too-scary elements. I was really rooting for the main character and could visualize the antagonist so clearly. It's a poignant story for today's world.
